Delivery options
Delivery options
Delivery is most definitely not an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ process for us! We always try to deliver your plant using the most cost-effective, convenient and plant-friendly method possible.
Our location
Our wholesale nursery is located eight miles inland from Scarborough, in beautiful North Yorkshire.
Postcode: YO13 9QT
What influences delivery costs and methods?
Many factors come into play, including:
- Conditions – for example in hot weather, a 2-3 day delivery schedule could harm your plants
- Size and weight of your plants
- Quantity of your plants
- Your preferred timescale
- Access issues/limitations
- Your budget
This is why with liaise with you to come up with the best solution.
Delivering shrubs, hedging and instant hedging plants
We can deliver any shrub under 1.5 metres in height anywhere in mainland UK, subject to access.
What type of vehicle will arrive?
Delivery vehicles will be at least as large as a dustcart. So if your council refuse collection vehicles can’t access your location, neither can our lorry.
But don’t despair! We may be able to arrange delivery to another location, if you can arrange transportation of the plants the rest of the way.
Are deliveries kerbside?
Yes, plants will be delivered to your kerbside. The carrier may choose to deliver ‘to the door’ if access is appropriate, but this is at their discretion.
When can I expect my plants to arrive?
In-season pallets of shrubs and hedges are delivered subject to availability. They are usually sent out for delivery, leaving our nursery on the Monday following confirmation of receipt and processing of your order.
Pallets sent out on a Monday will take 2 – 3 days to be delivered. You should therefore expect them to arrive no later than Thursday afternoon, unless you’re informed of a delay.
Other arrangements can be made but need to be agreed to by you and ourselves first.
Is delivery included in the price?
Basic delivery charges to mainland UK are included in our online shop prices for shrubs and hedging plants. These prices are for the quantities stated to fill a pallet. You can find this number in the plant’s ‘How many plants to order for delivery’ section.
Ordering fewer plants will mean an additional delivery charge. It depends on the number of plants you’ve ordered, but could be up to £72.
Can I pay extra to have an overnight delivery or a timed delivery?
Yes, overnight deliveries have an additional charge of £25 per pallet. Timed deliveries cost an extra £20 per pallet.
What happens if there is no one on site to receive the delivery?
Once the delivery arrangements have been confirmed, any missed deliveries will require a second delivery to be arranged. This may trigger a further charge.
Mature trees and screening plants
So your trees and screening plants arrive in the best of health, we prefer to limit our delivery radius. Most of our customers are based in Yorkshire and Northern England:
- To the west: The Wirral, Liverpool, Cheshire and Manchester
- To the north: Newcastle, Hexham, Alnwick and up to the Scottish borders
- To the south: North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire
For deliveries more than 12 miles of our nursery, your choices include:
Option 1 for shrubs and hedging plants: Pallet carrier
Which type of plants suit this option?
Shrubs, hedging and accessories of approximately 2m tall or less in relatively small amounts can be delivered using a pallet carrier. We particularly recommend a pallet carrier for customers who are geographically further away.
How many plants can be placed in each pallet?
To get the best value for money, and reduce the carbon footprint of transporting plants, we encourage customers to order specific quantities of stock to fill a pallet or pallets. Some guide quantities are:
- Laurel hedging blocks: we can usually fit 3 onto one pallet
- Shrubs in 36 litre pots: typically 3 – 7 per pallet depending on the variety
We’re happy to discuss and amend quantities.
What type of vehicle will arrive?
Anything from a van to an articulated lorry may deliver your plants. Please let us know when placing your order about any access limitations that could affect delivery, such as:
- Weight limits
- Restricted road or drive width
- Height restrictions
What about unloading the plants?
The stock will be on a pallet. Ideally this would be lifted off using your forklift. If one isn’t available, make sure you can have a vehicle with a tail lift on site when arranging delivery.
Pallet carriers should normally have a pallet truck onboard. This will help move the pallet from the vehicle tail lift onto your driveway. But they require a firm surface, so not gravel or soft ground.
How long will delivery take?
Typically once the plants are loaded here in North Yorkshire, delivery happens within one working day.
We will arrange the timetable in consultation with you.
We will contact you before despatch to arrange and confirm a convenient day for delivery. Because of traffic, it is not possible to confirm an exact time. Please also let us know of any limiting factors.
How much will it cost to have my shrubs or hedging plants delivered by pallet carrier?
The cost is usually £60 per pallet to anywhere within mainland UK. This includes VAT at 20%. We will confirm the delivery charges with you as part of processing your order, before your order is despatched.
Option 2 for mature trees / screening plants: Haulage carrier / lorry
Which plants suit being delivered by lorry?
- Trees or shrubs
- Hedging
- Plants or accessories over 2m tall
- Larger quantities of smaller stock
What type of lorry will arrive?
It will either be a large, rigid, curtain-sided wagon (approximately 33ft long and 14ft high) or a full-sized articulated lorry.
Please let us know when placing your order about any access limitations that could affect delivery, such as:
- Weight limits near your location
- Restricted road or drive width
- Height restrictions
What about unloading the plants?
These lorries tend not to have tail lifts. You will therefore need mechanical help to unload heavier items. This could be a forklift or tractor with bucket arms.
How much is delivery?
Hauliers charge us per drop and by the mile, so the price depends on the distance from us here at YO13 9QT. Before any order is despatched, we will confirm the delivery charges with you as part of processing your order.
To reduce costs and the carbon footprint, we schedule shared load deliveries including other orders to your area. Delivery cost is calculated by postcode area and includes VAT at 20%:
My area isn’t shown on the map. Can you still deliver to me?
Possibly, but the delivery cost might be extremely high. Please contact us for delivery prices for areas not shown.
I don’t want to wait to share a delivery. What should I do?
Please get in contact and we will prepare a ‘sole-drop’ quote for you.
Are deliveries kerbside?
Yes, all mature plants and/or screening plant deliveries are effectively to your kerbside unless otherwise agreed. Assisted deliveries may need a further charge.
Can I move the plants from the van or lorry myself?
Most of the plants we sell are extremely heavy. It’s not just the weight of the plant, but the soil contained around its rootball. You should arrange for assistance at your end to avoid risk of injury when attempting to move the plants. In some cases mechanical lifting aides may be necessary.
What happens if there is no one on site to receive the delivery?
Once the delivery arrangements have been confirmed, any missed deliveries will require a second delivery to be arranged. This may incur a further charge.
The ultimate hassle-free solution
